The information for these maps was interpolated from the Census 2000 Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171), Summary File, U.S. Census Bureau, 2000. These maps were prepared by ASU IT Resarch Support Lab, GIS Services, C. Scott Smith, Spring 2001, for the exclusive use of Arizona State University. Use of these maps is prohibited unless permission is granted in writing by Arizona State University, Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.

The increased gradation ranges represent the ethnic/race population as a percentage of the total population in that block group. For a group to be illustrated, the population of that group must be at least:

  • .7% Native American = green
  • 3.6% Asian = purple
  • 12.1% Black = blue
  • 12.5% Hispanic = orange
  • 69.1% White, N/H = gray

The increased gradation range represents 12.5% or more of Hispanic concentration as a percentage of the total population in that block group.

The increased gradation along the southwestern United States closely resembles the U.S.- Mexico borderline prior to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, 1848.

The increased gradation ranges represent concentrations of 7% or more of Hispanic/Latino of any race as a percentage of the total population for that block group.
