Proposal to Change the Name

Academic Unit

Proposed academic unit name changes must be included on the  approved College/School Academic Plan and receive specific written approval from the University Provost’s office. With prior approval from the University Provost’s office, the “Proposal to Change the Name of an Academic Unit” may be routed through the internal ASU proposal development and review process. Although final implementation requires ABOR System President approval. That is, there is no required order of events for ABOR and internal approvals. Normally changes are considered by the unit, the relevant college/school committee if applicable, the college dean or school director, the University Provost's office and Dean’s review.

Final decisions are made by the University Provost.

Academic Program (Undergraduate and Graduate)

Proposed degree name changes must be included on the approved College/School Academic Plan and receive specific written approval from the University Provost’s office.

Once approved, complete the “Proposal to Change the Name of an Academic Program” template to be routed through the internal ASU proposal development and review process.

Undergraduate Concentration, Minor or Certificate

Proposed changes to the names of a concentration, minor or certificate should be submitted on the College/School academic plan and receive specific written approval from the University Provost’s office.

Once approved, complete the “Proposal to Change the Name of an Academic Program” template to be routed through the internal ASU proposal development and review process.

Proposed changes to the names of concentrations or certificates should be submitted on the College/School academic plan and receive specific written approval from the University Provost’s office.
