Lauren Vasquez: Building a Future Through MyPath2ASU
Lauren Vasquez didn’t always know what she wanted to study. Like many students navigating life after high school, she needed time to figure it out. But thanks to her experience at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) and the support of MyPath2ASU®, Lauren found her passion—and a clear path forward.
In Fall 2024, Lauren graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Human Development through ASU Online and The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Finding the Right Start

“I didn't have a clue what I wanted to study,” Lauren said. “Community college was a good way for me to explore my interests and figure out my educational path.”
It was also a practical decision. Without her own car at the time, Lauren was able to commute using her parents’ car or take classes online, staying local to Chandler, Arizona.
While attending CGCC, she started working at a job that sparked her interest in psychology and human development—something that would shape her academic path.
“My current job and the team that I work with helped me discover what my passion is in life and what I wanted my educational goals to be.”
Choosing the Right Major—and the Right University
During her second year of community college, Lauren came across ASU’s Family and Human Development program, and it clicked.
“I always knew I wanted to do something with psychology, but when I saw ASU had a counseling and psychology degree, I knew that was what I wanted to pursue,” she said.
She chose ASU not only for the degree, but for the flexibility of its online programs and its strong support for transfer students.
“ASU counselors have the best interest of every student,” Lauren said. “All college students’ lives differ—it is pretty amazing that ASU offers so many undergraduate programs that can be taken online.”
A Seamless Transition with MyPath2ASU®
Lauren credits MyPath2ASU® with keeping her on track during her transition from CGCC to ASU.
“This program is so easy! It really gives you all the tasks you need to complete at the community college in order to be transferred to the university.”
The clear, personalized guidance helped her save time and ensure that her credits would apply toward her ASU degree.
What’s Next
Lauren hopes to explore careers in the field of human development and plans to continue her education with a graduate degree in the near future.
“I want to become a Master's graduate,” she said.
Her advice for other transfer students?
“Do not be afraid to ask questions or get help—there are so many resources available to you!”
She also encourages students considering Family and Human Development to reach out to faculty.
“If you have an interest in Family and Human Development or are considering a degree in it, reach out to Dr. Erickson. He is so helpful and knowledgeable.”
