Interdisciplinary Committee on Linguistics

Chair

Judit Kroo, Assistant Professor, Japanese Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies, International Letters and Cultures

The Interdisciplinary Committee on Linguistics coordinates interdisciplinary linguistics courses and programs in reference to scheduling, advisement, conferences, lectures, evaluations, and information dissemination. The committee is administered through the Department of English, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and its scope is ASU (especially the Tempe campus, but not limited to the Tempe campus). Membership is by appointment.

The committee exists as the only venue for coordination and communication among the several graduate programs on campus related to linguistics. Those programs include, but are not limited to:

  • The MA and PhD in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics
  • The Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
  • The Master of Arts in Spanish, concentration in Applied Linguistics
  • The Interdisciplinary PhD in Speech and Hearing Science
  • The MA in Educating Multilingual Learners in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College
  • The MA and PhD in Anthropology
  • The MA and PhD in Psychology
  • The PhD in Comparative Culture and Language
  • The MA in Chinese
  • The MA in Japanese
  • The PhD in East Asian Languages and Civilization

The Interdisciplinary Committee on Linguistics is also the coordinating body for a graduate certificate in linguistics. The committee also helps coordinate graduate course offerings in the programs related to linguistics. The committee co-sponsors occasional lectures and organizes major events related to linguistics across the ASU campuses.
