The Advising Administrators Board (AAB)

The council is advisory to the executive vice president and provost on development of policy and procedural matters related to the academic areas. It enhances communication to and from the colleges/schools and various support units regarding review of policies, programs, and issues. The council is appointed by and responsible to the executive vice president and university provost of Arizona State University.

National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)

The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) is the national organization dedicated to academic advising issues. NACADA has been providing a forum for academic advisors to network on a national level with peers at a variety of institutions since the 1970's. NACADA provides award and recognition opportunities to individual advisors and institutions. Membership to NACADA include faculty, administrators, and professional advisors throughout higher education. Membership information is provided on the NACADA home page. NACADA is broken down into ten regions throughout North America. ASU is a member of the Rocky Mountain Region (10) that includes Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and New Mexico.

New Advisor Set-Up, Training, Development, and Resource Guide

This guide can be used by departments for onboarding advisors who are new to ASU. Topics covered include but are not limited to: familiarizing new employee to ASU/colleagues, HR and IT trainings, introduction to the advising profession, and university policies/procedures. 

NACADA Library at ASU

The College of Integrative Arts and Sciences has created an Advising Resource Library for all ASU advisors to use. The Library contains videos, DVDs, training binders, books on advising and more. NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising

In addition to being an organization for the advising profession, NACADA also provides a plethora of articles, materials, publications, and other resources. Whether trying to get new perspective on retention issues or just trying to stay abreast of current trends in advising, NACADA's Resources are a proven source of valuable information.

  • Advising Theories: Resources related to various student development theories related to advising.
  • Advising Standards and Values: NACADA’s statement of core values of academic advising.
  • Clearinghouse: Digitized in 2002, the Clearinghouse of Academic Advising Resources features member written articles on 250+ subjects and over 100 resource pages organized by topic and applicable to academic advising.

The Mentor - Journal of Academic Advising

The Mentor: An Academic Advising Journal is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication about academic advising in higher education. The journal is free and published only online. The goal of the journal is to provide a mechanism for the rapid dissemination of new ideas about advising and for ongoing discourse about advising issues. Toward this goal, articles in the journal are published continuously. Each article is archived and is accessible online indefinitely.

Professional Development Funding

The Council of Academic Advisors is pleased to offer professional development funding opportunities to the academic advising community. Recipients will receive $500 to apply toward a professional development opportunity of their choosing (conference, webinar, training, etc). Recipients will also receive recognition from CAA and will be invited to share their professional development experience with the ASU advising community.
